🌸 The Lotus Born Trail (Padmasambhava Trail)
Connecting Gelephu Mindfulness City to Kurje, Bumthang
The Lotus Born Trail is envisioned as a sacred pilgrimage and cultural heritage route tracing the footsteps of Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), who entered Bhutan in the 8th century via the southern plains of Gelephu, journeying through Nubji Korphu, and culminating at Kurje Lhakhang in Bumthang, where he subdued negative forces and left his body imprint on a rock.
This trail will serve as a spiritual artery linking the emerging Gelephu Mindfulness City to one of Bhutan’s most revered religious sites, reinforcing Bhutan’s identity as a sanctuary of wisdom, compassion, and enlightened living. It also reinforces the Gelephu Mindfulness City as a new spiritual hub, with historical significance of Buddhism coming to Bhutan with Guru Rinpoche in the 8th century.
The proposed Lotus Born Trail project is intended to be part of the National Day celebrations in Bumthang this year. The trail is intended to showcase the significance of Guru Rinpoche’s arrival in Bhutan and to present Gelephu Mindfulness City as part of the legacy of his teachings and spiritual blessings.
